EXPED builds a full line of waterproof stuff sacks equipped with air-purge FlatValves to eliminate every last cubic inch of air during packing. Schnozzel is a very lightweight tube (0.8 ounces) that attaches on one end to the drybag purge valve and to an EXPED sleeping mat on the other, allowing a stuff sack already being carried to do double duty as an inflation device. Yet another lung-free, vapor-free, lightweight and compact way to inflate EXPED mats!
When the Schnozzel has been attached to mat and stuff sack, the technique for inflation of a mat is the same as that of the Schnozzel Pumpsack. The top edges of the bag’s opening are grasped with both hands. By lowering and then lifting the bag, air is scooped in, which can then be trapped by a light rolling of the top edges together. While holding the rolled top together, air can then be pushed out of the bag, through the Schnozzel tube and into the sleeping mat. Every EXPED mat inflate valve is equipped with a one-way flapper, which keeps air from escaping the mat once it’s been pumped in. A little bit of practice and it quickly becomes second nature, making mat inflation very fast, without the light-headedness of the mouth-to-valve lung inflation of olden days.
Fits EXPED drybag valves from 2010 and beyond. Contact EXPED USA customer service for an adapter for older style 30mm FlatValves.
