Designed for stowing EXPED’s big, thick, super-plush sleeping mats (MegaMat, MegaMat Max, DeepSleep), Sidewinder is a side-access stuff sack that allows the ever-popular sloppy mat-roll. We do it all the time: hastily break camp and try to cut corners when rolling up our sleeping mats. With traditional, end-access stuff sacks, such a cavalier attitude is quickly punished with a frustrating wrestling match with the stuff sack – the mat won’t fit! With this sack, the entire length is opened on one side, easily enveloping a less-than-ideally-rolled mat.
To stow a sleeping mat, unclip the quick-release strap buckle and unroll the mouth of the sack. Slip the mat into the sack and roll the closure as many times as it takes to tightly wrap the mat. Re-clip the buckle and snug up the slack to secure the closure. This closure strap doubles as a shoulder strap for carrying and, thanks to the roll-access design, Sidewinder’s volume is variable.
When the sleeping mat is deployed for use in camp, Sidewinder is very useful for organizing gear that otherwise doesn’t have a good place to go: other stuff sacks from tent and sleeping bags, camp shoes, inflation pumps, etc. It also works well as a lightweight duffle bag for day trips just about anywhere.
