Ultralite is a summer sleeping bag designed to live up to its name - light in the pack and highly compressible. It is often used for backpacking and alpine mountaineering, especially when those trips are minimalist outings, stripped of the non-essentials. This is a snug-to-the body mummy bag with the schnickschnack eliminated, as the Swiss say.
A feature exclusive to the Ultralite is what we call DownShift, which eliminates the baffle between the upper and lower sections of each insulation chamber. This allows down to be moved from the upper side to the bottom of the bag and vice versa. Less down on the top results in a bag that is a bit less insulated and more suitable for warmer nights. By shifting more down to the top, the bag’s heat trapping capacity increases for colder conditions. When used with an EXPED insulated sleeping mat, this bag’s lower limit can be extended to get through cold alpine nights. For more on DownShift, check out the video to the left.
As with all EXPED mummy bags, Ultralite is built with differential cut, which ensures the down insulation’s maximum loft by precisely downsizing the inner lining relative to the outer shell - for each size. Shoulder width is also adapted across the bag sizes for correct fit. 800 fill-power, RDS-certified goose down ensures a high level of loft, warmth and longevity of the insulation. EXPED'S exclusive 3-D footbox is constructed with 11 individual chambers, effectively trapping heat and ensuring feet don’t push through the down insulation and contact cold air.
Choose Ultralite for those times when the pack needs to be light and tight to make up for technical gear being carried or when moving fast on the trail.
